Spin the wheel on GitHub

The open-source project behind this spin the wheel install path is GradXL49/DemoWheel. Source, licence, README operate steps, and Releases all live there. Spoke Quill maps that tree so you can install without inventing package ids or naked exe assets.

Upstream describes a desktop app for wheel-based random selection, originally inspired by a Funhaus demo format, meant to run offline without a webpage that serves ads. Home: spin the wheel.

What the tree contains

Python sources include main.py, mainwindow.py, demowheel.py, settings.py, and settingswindow.py. The stack uses PyQt6 and qdarktheme. A settings.ini appears beside the executable after first run; README warns not to edit that file by hand.

Theme files live under themes/ as ini files. Background images live under images/. Sharing a look means copying both folders next to the exe. Releases zip already ships sample themes orange.ini and starfield.ini inside release_v1.

Licence file LICENSE is GPL-3.0. Security reports go through GitHub’s security tab for the repo. Stars and forks change; prefer live stats on the repo page over memorised counts.

README operate steps that matter

Start the program, click SPIN, and read the result. Settings open from the toolbar. Wheel tab controls size, background type, and line color (which also colors the pointer). Titles and Wheel Colors lists require delete-and-add rather than inline edit; the last remaining entry cannot be deleted so the app does not crash.

Shadow text can tank framerate; README calls that a PyQt limitation. Large background images load slowly with no progress bar. Theme Apply overwrites current settings without warning, so save a theme first when you care about the previous look.

Releases versus source checkout

Most desks should take DemoWheel_release_v1.zip from tag v1.0 rather than building from source. The release body calls it a one-file executable for Windows only. Source checkout is for contributors who already have a Python toolchain; this install guide documents the zip path.

Windows-only scope

README states support for other operating systems is not planned. Soft parks for macOS and Linux stay parked. No winget package and no Homebrew cask were found on the research date. Do not invent cmds for soft parks.

How Spoke Quill uses the repo

We cite README paths, release asset names, and licence URLs. Phrase-first copy does not rebrand Demo Wheel as our product. Phrase-first copy keeps spin the wheel ahead of the upstream project name in titles.
